Stax was based in Memphis as a sister label to Volt Records, which popularised so-called Southern Soul and Memphis Soul music which was popular at the same time as Tamla Motown's output. Both labels had very identifiable yet similar sounds that is still very popular with soul afficionados today.
	Chart 'Chart' is a catch-all category to mean music that is popular right now and very recently. The kinds of stuff you will hear on BBC Radio 1 and 2, along with commercial stations, and is generally of interest to typical casual listeners / dancers.
	Rock Rock is a broad genre that encompasses a range of styles, drawing on many other genres. In general, however, "rock" is typically separated from "pop" through the preference for 4/4 timing, the predominant use of drums and electric guitars for the lead, and energetic singing.
